With gas prices continuing to rise, so many of us are considering alternate forms of transportation. But for the children and families we serve, cars are rarely in the picture to begin with. Thankfully our campus is on the bus line, and we have a MARTA train station down the road.
But even these greener forms of transportation require “green.” A monthly MARTA card costs $68 to fill up. Our Independent Living Program youth use MARTA to get to jobs, school and important appointments, and our Family Housing residents also use them for job searching and to commute to their jobs once they’ve secured them.
Our children in Foster Care and Family Housing don’t have jobs to get to, but they do have their own important tasks in development – including physical activity! Thanks to some wonderful Delta employees, we recently received 12 bikes to help our children more fully experience the great outdoors.
However, we still have many children and youth who would love to receive bikes. We also have a great need for helmets of all sizes to keep our kids safe as they play!
If you are interested in helping our children and families get around, whether by bus, bike or train, we’d love your help. Bikes and helmets of all sizes can be brought to our agency (500 S. Columbia Drive, Decatur GA 30030), Monday through Friday from 8:30 to 5.
Or you can make your donation online today to provide for a monthly MARTA card to help our youth and families get to their schools and jobs. Click here to donate, choose “other” for your gift designation, and indicate that your gift is to cover the costs of MARTA cards.
We are so grateful for your help to keep our children playing outside, our youth at school, and our families employed!
